An acapella version of an old classic for my friend and original jazz mentor, Dave Wearing, whom we tragically lost in 2021. Just before lockdown Dave and I met up for Thursday night jazz at the Hope and Anchor in Ulverston and the group played this tune. We chatted about it for a while and at the time of Dave's passing it was one of a few things I was taking another look at using handwritten lead sheets he had given to me decades ago. The bands Dave ran when I was starting out were invaluable and (directly and indirectly) shaped the course my life has taken ever since. He also got my ears buzzing by lending me countless classic albums by the likes of Stanley Turrentine, Coltrane, Zoot Sims, Miles, Buddy Rich and many, many others.
